Marcella (Sally) Kahl Obituary

Marcella (Sally) Kahl, 91, of Hayesville passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, August 25, 2019.  She was surrounded by her loving family.  Sally was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved the Lord.  She joined her husband Vic, the love of her life, in heaven.  He  passed away on August 3, 2019 and was awaiting her arrival.  The couple had met on the school bus in the third grade. They were married November 28, 1948 at the Mohicanville Community Church and were able to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary last fall. They had one daughter, Kimberly (Bill Rogers) of Hayesville.
Sally was born October 5, 1927 in Ashland County to Ralph and Lorna Bunyan Tugend. She was a lifelong resident of Ashland County and a 1945 graduate of Hayesville High School. She attended Wooster Business College. Sally helped her husband on their farm and also worked many years in Ashland.  She and her twin sister Louella shared rides to and from work for most of those years. Sally worked at the Ashland County Automobile Club, the Clerk of Courts Office, the Treasurer’s Office, and for different attorneys in town. Marcella was employed by the Law firm of Troth and Van Tilburg for 30 years, retiring at the age of 86. She loved her work and her employers at Troth and Van Tilburg and felt her colleagues were part of her family.
Mrs. Kahl  was a member of the Hayesville United Methodist Church. Sally practiced her faith through service. She taught Sunday school for 50 years, was very active in the United Methodist Women’s group, and served on numerous church committees. Her church family was extremely important to her.
Compassionate is a word that describes Sally. She was a very active, determined lady with a competitive spirit.  She loved her family with all her heart.  She adored her grandchildren and attended all of their events. She was an avid sports fan and attended many Hillsdale events with her husband. Sally also enjoyed spending time at her family cottage on Lake Erie and perch fishing.  She played bridge once a month with lifelong friends for over 60 years, and loved to work in her vegetable and flower gardens. She enjoyed canning, cooking, and always made her famous grape pie for family gatherings. Sally had a knack for making holidays special and particularly enjoyed decorating hundreds of cut-out cookies with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Kahl is survived by her daughter Kim (Bill); grandchildren, Dexter (Allison Gross), Adrianna, and Jaxston; sister-in-law, Phyllis Kahl, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Eugene Kahl; her parents, infant granddaughter, Bond Kaylee Rogers; twin sister, Louella Tugend, brother, Richard Tugend; sisters-in-law, Myrene Tugend, Lela (Roger) Hazen; brother-in-law, R. Blair Kahl; and infant nephews, Karl Ralph Tugend and James Richard Tugend.
Sally was able to have recently made new friends at the Brethren Care facilities. She received excellent care from all the staff at the Nursing Center, Belmont Tower, and Wasen Rehabilitation Center. The family would also like to thank the Hospice staff who were so loving and kind to Sally.
The family will receive family and friends, Friday, August 30, 2019 from 4-7 p.m. at Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville. A celebration of Sally’s wonderful life will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2019, 11 a.m. at the Hayesville United Methodist Church with Pastor Paula Archdeacon officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service.  Sally will be laid to rest in the Vermillion Cemetery.
